FlexCare and the Jeep® 4xe: How the Coverage Fits Together

The Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe are plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Each has a gasoline engine, electric drive motors and a high-voltage battery you can charge from an outlet. That mix raises a question other Jeeps don't: which repairs fall under the factory warranty, and which might fall under a FlexCare plan? FlexCare plans are vehicle service contracts, not warranties or insurance, and they're separate from your factory limited warranty. People often search for a "4xe extended warranty," and this page explains how the two fit together.

Three Layers to Understand

1. Factory hybrid/high-voltage coverage. Stellantis' factory warranty for your 4xe covers listed hybrid and high-voltage parts for its own term, which can be longer than the basic warranty. Check your Warranty Information booklet for the parts list and terms, because they can vary by model year and state.

2. Conventional mechanical parts. The gas engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, steering, suspension, A/C and the rest of the electronics are the kinds of parts FlexCare's Extended Care plans list for gas and diesel vehicles.

3. Hybrid-specific parts after factory coverage. This is the part we won't guess about. FlexCare publishes separate EV Extended Care plans for battery-electric vehicles, and Mopar's public pages don't clearly state how each plan treats PHEV hybrid components. We confirm it for your VIN, in writing, from the plan provision before you buy.

Which FlexCare Products Might Apply

Extended Care Premium / Plus / Extended Care: gas and diesel mechanical tiers (5,000+ / 800+ / engine, transmission, driveline, steering and A/C). Ask us which tier and form are quoted for your 4xe, and which hybrid parts are excluded.

EV Extended Care (3 tiers): listed for battery-electric vehicles (traction motor, EV transmission/reducer, axles, EV cooling and EV electrical, by tier). Ask us whether it applies to a PHEV. We don't assume it does.

Prepaid maintenance (MyFlexCare SERVICE): prepaid oil changes, rotations and inspections, by plan. Ask us; the 4xe still has a gasoline engine that needs oil changes.

Add-on protection (Road Hazard Tire & Wheel and more): tire and wheel, appearance and other plans. Rules and availability vary; ask us.

4xe Parts FlexCare's Gas/Diesel Chart Does List

Whatever applies to the hybrid side, the conventional hardware still matters. On FlexCare's chart, the transfer case, axles, drive shafts, turbocharger housing and internals, and the automatic transmission case and torque converter are listed on all three tiers. Uconnect® hands-free, Hill Descent Control and the tire pressure monitoring system are listed on Premium. Wrangler 4xe owners can find the Wrangler-specific parts table on our Wrangler guide.

Questions to Ask Before You Buy (Bring These to Any Quote)

1. Which FlexCare plan and form will this contract be written on for my VIN?

2. Which hybrid and high-voltage parts are excluded, and which are covered after factory coverage ends?

3. When does my factory hybrid coverage end, in years and miles?

4. What deductible applies, and how does it apply per repair visit?

5. Will charging equipment or aftermarket accessories affect coverage?

We'll answer each of these from the plan documents, not from memory.

4xe FlexCare Questions

Is the high-voltage battery covered by FlexCare?

Don't assume it is. Check your factory warranty booklet for the battery terms, and ask us to confirm in writing what the FlexCare contract says about it for your VIN.

My 4xe is a few years old. Am I still eligible?

Traditional pre-owned plans are available for vehicles up to 10 model years old with fewer than 150,000 miles (fewer than 125,000 with a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty), and an inspection is required. Availability, terms and price depend on your VIN, mileage, in-service date and eligibility.

Can a non-Jeep shop fix it?

Repairs at other facilities require prior authorization. Authorized Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, FIAT and Alfa Romeo dealers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico can handle covered repairs.
